I love my brother!

A few weeks ago, there was a Facebook post that asked everyone to write something special about your brother. I didn't take the time. I feel like sisters get all the praises and brothers are kind of left out. I will now take the opportunity to write about why MY brother is so special. First of all, I didn't always think that way when we were growing up, ya know cooties and all! But now I am glad that we shared growing up in our family together and can reminisce. Who knows our parents better than we do? There certainly were good times, like rowing across the lake to use the phone booth to call our girl/boy friends in New York and having someone to play games with and share music with. I think I would have been quite lonely without him, as it was just the two of us until much later (15 years) my sister came along. The first time I really liked him as a person was when he came to visit me at my dorm in Milwaukee and we got pretty wasted together! I have a wonderful picture of him leaning against my bed with eyes half shut! Here are some highlights of how great my brother is:

*He came to Milwaukee and helped me move out of my abusive boyfriends apartment.
*He flew to Atlanta to drive back with me after my divorce. Then he let me and my two kids live in his home for a month until I found a place to live. He would have let us stay longer, I might add. We really had a blast that month too!
*He gave me my first sewing machine, which pretty much launched my longstanding love of making things with fabric. He also was instrumental in my search for a job that led to learning to make futons and eventually having my own store.
*He is the best Uncle Mikey that my kids could ever have!
*When he comes back to Wisconsin we always make a road trip back to the old cottage!
*He has given me so many things and bought me so many dinners, too numerous to count, his generosity is amazing!
*I love talking to him on the phone and bitching about stuff!
*We have had a lot of good times too numerous to mention.

I am lucky to have him for a brother and wish we didn't live so far away.
